Position Structure and Compensation
This is a faculty appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level (open rank), with a 9-month academic year salary ranging from $110,000 to $120,000.

The position includes serving in an additional Director role. The Director component is a separate appointment, compensated via a stipend in the range of $22,000 to $24,000 and associated with summer employment that falls outside the academic year.

While the institution anticipates that the selected candidate will serve in both capacities beyond the first year, the Director role is not a permanent or required component of the faculty appointment and is subject to annual renewal.

Faculty assigned to the Director role will receive a reduced teaching load during the academic year to support administrative responsibilities. Should the Director appointment conclude, responsibilities will revert fully to the standard faculty role.

JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Clinical Education of the Physician Assistant Program oversees the clinical phase of PA student training to assure the effectiveness of instruction on campus and at WSU affiliated clinical sites. The Director of Clinical Education also serves as the primary liaison between the PA Program and the local healthcare community.

Job Requirements:
Director of Clinical Education Responsibilities (Administrative Oversight)

• Identify, establish, and maintain relationships with area health providers and the community for the purpose of further development and support of clinical affiliates, program enrollment, and learning objectives.
• Oversee and coordinate the development and execution of agreements and/or contracts with clinical affiliates, instructors, and preceptors to be involved in the clinical training of PA students.
• Participate in curriculum design and program development to include, but not limited to, program manuals, instructional materials and learning objectives.
• Maintain accurate and appropriate records, assist with periodic accreditation reports, accreditation site visits, and ongoing program evaluation.
• Participate in the development, mission review, initiation, and incorporation of instructional experiences within the curriculum designed to achieve and maintain compliance with ARC-PA standards.
• Appropriately assign students to clerkship sites.
• Develop orientation sessions for upcoming clerkship year students to acquaint them to clerkship expectations and outcomes.
• Participate in the admissions process, identification and recruitment of qualified applicants, and to promote their enrollment as students in the PA Program in collaboration with the Admissions Committee and program faculty and staff.
• Organize and participate in end of clerkship educational workshops.
• Evaluate the clinical curriculum including, but not limited to, student evaluations, preceptor evaluations and clerkship site evaluations.
• Collaborate with PA faculty to evaluate clinical sites.
• Chair the program's Clinical Curriculum Committee.
• Coordinate and track site visits as a means of communicating and reinforcing experiential learning objectives.
• Coordinate, maintain, and perform periodic analyses of the student and clinical site databases to identify opportunities for process and outcome improvements.
• Provide supervision, evaluation, instruction, remediation, advice, and counsel to students assigned to the clinical clerkships and thereby facilitate the students' successful completion of all learning outcomes and assure the achievement of clinical competency.
• Engage in preceptor development for new and established clinical rotations.
• Completes initial and ongoing clinical preceptor, clinical site, clinical courses, and program evaluation, providing detailed analysis and reports for ongoing clinical phase and program evaluation, assessment, and improvement.
• Assist in the evaluation of the program's clinical rotations, preceptors, and curricula.
• Provides education, mentoring and resources to transition into professional practice.
• Coordinate and oversee the AAPA CME for preceptors process.
• Participate in the ARC-PA accreditation meetings and on-site evaluation.
• Engage in teaching, scholarship, and service activities.
• Serve as an 'ambassador' for the PA Program through participation in service activities of the University and PA Program.
• Identify sources for and participate in the preparation and implementation of grants and contracts supportive of the activities of the University and PA Program.
• Serve on University and PA Program faculty committees when appointed or elected.
• Participate in the search process activities of the University and PA Program.
• Participate in local, state, and national professional organizations for own professional development and to ensure program excellence and appropriateness of curriculum and instruction and its application to clinical instruction.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director PA Program.

Qualifications and Special Skills:

• Master's Degree
• Current NCCPA certification
• Eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant in the State of Massachusetts
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite
• Good interpersonal and communication skills

Faculty Responsibilities (Department of Health Sciences)

The faculty member serving within the Department of Health Sciences is expected to meet all teaching, scholarship, and service obligations consistent with the MSCA collective bargaining agreement, with teaching load adjustments as deemed appropriate to reflect administrative responsibilities during the academic year.

• Provide instruction at the graduate level within the PA curriculum in both in-person and online modalities.
• As programmatic and departmental needs warrant, provide undergraduate instruction, particularly in courses that support student progression, preparation, or advising pathways into advanced practice education.
• Teach a course load consistent with MSCA workload provisions; instructional responsibilities may be adjusted in recognition of Director of Clinical Education administrative duties during the academic year.
• Design, revise, and assess physician assistant curricula to ensure academic rigor, alignment with professional standards, and responsiveness to workforce needs.
• Advise and mentor undergraduate (as needed) and graduate students regarding course selection, academic progression, clinical preparation, and professional and career goals.
• Participate in departmental and University service through committee work, governance activities, accreditation support, and campus initiatives.
• Engage in ongoing scholarly activity appropriate for rank and tenure, including research, publication, professional presentation, or other recognized scholarly contributions.
• Contribute to assessment, continuous improvement, and accreditation-related efforts within the Department of Health Sciences and Physician Assistant Program.

Required Qualifications:

• Current NCCPA certification
• Current active state licensure
• Eligible for MA state licensure
• A minimum of three years clinical experience
• Master's degree
• Organizational and computer skills
• Current drivers license and personal means of transportation for site visits
• General knowledge of the University mission, purpose and goals and the role of a Director of Clinical Education - Physician Assistant Program in achieving those goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctorate degree
• Experience as a faculty member in PA higher education

Compensation:

The overall compensation for this position will be a combination of base salary which is associated with the role of a tenure-track faculty in the Physician Assistant Program, and stipended work associated with the role of Director of Clinical Education. The total compensation (which will fall within the $110K-$144K range in the job posting) will break down in roughly the following way:

Base Salary (subject to maximum requirements under the MSCA DAY CBA):

• Assistant, Associate, or Professor Rank: up to $120,000

Stipends (consistent with similar positions at the institution):

• Summer Stipend: $20,000 - $24,000
